Hole #20

2017, pen on paper, found frame

Holes is a series of drawings in used picture frames collected from local second-hand stores. The drawings are done in various black materials, including pencils, pens, charcoal, oil stick, crayons, pastels, or coloured pencils. From a dot at the assumed centre, the drawing grows outwards, with a repetitive circular action until it fills the entire space. The opaque solid black drawings overlapped with the transparent glass of the frame become a permeable space, reflecting and interacting with the surroundings. One should choose to look at the drawing, the reflection of oneself, or both in between.

All drawings look alike from a distance but are distinct from one another in a closer look because of the different shades and texture of each black material.

There are 43 drawings in this series.
